The Henry Ford Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Bone and Mineral Disorders aims to continually improve the care of our patients through innovative clinical programs and the advancement of research and education. Our endocrinologists specialize in the wide range of endocrine diseases that include more than 50 types of disorders and remain among the most experienced and recognized in Michigan and the US in the areas of diabetes, thyroid disorders, pituitary disease, adrenal disease, and osteoporosis.
We would not be able to do all that we do without the generosity of others who support our mission for advancing clinical care, research, and education. Our staff is grateful for the many charitable gifts that benefit our programs and our patients.
Charitable Gift Areas
A few of Henry Ford Endocrinology's special areas for ongoing support, which are not able to be funded otherwise, include:
Fred W. Whitehouse Endowed Chair in Endocrinology
The Endowed Chair in Endocrinology was established in the name of Fred Whitehouse, M.D., in honor of his service to his patients, colleagues, the Henry Ford Health System, and the medical specialty of diabetes. Dr. Whitehouse began his career at Henry Ford in the 1950s, served over 30 years as Division Head from 1962 to 1995, and has long been regarded as one of the nation's leaders in the field of diabetes. He has received many honors, including the Banting Medal, Outstanding Clinician Award, and Outstanding Physician Educator Award from the American Diabetes Association, and the Master Physician distinction from the American College of Physicians. Over the course of 60 years, Dr. Whitehouse has helped change the face of diabetes management and treatment. Donations to the Fred Whitehouse Endowed Chair in Endocrinology at Henry Ford are used to support the Division's mission in clinical care, education, and research, providing funding for research projects, training and development of physicians and other staff, and equipment needs for clinical and research programs.
Dorothy Kahkonen Lectureship Fund
In honor of Dorothy Kahkonen, M.D., past Division Head with over 35 years of dedicated service to Henry Ford Health System, this lectureship series supports our resident education program. Guest lecturers from around the US are invited to share their research and treatment advances in the areas of Endocrinology and Diabetes to advance the education of our resident physicians.
Endocrinology Research and Education Fund
The Division's Research and Education Fund supports the needs of our residents and fellows by providing funding for research projects, training and development through support for attendance at national conferences, as well as additional training related to Endocrinology and Bone and Mineral Disorders.
