Heart Tests

World-class care begins with innovative diagnostic testing to give physicians a look at the inner workings of the heart. Our non-invasive lab is the largest in southeastern Michigan with locations throughout the region. Our specialists offer complete cardiac testing, including:

  • Echocardiogram (Echo) - A simple, non-invasive test using sound waves to check your heart.
  • Exercise Echocardiogram (Stress Echo)- A stress test that is combined with echo images of the heart taken before the patient walks on the treadmill and immediately after.
  • Dobutamine Echocardiogram - If a patient is unable to walk on a treadmill sufficiently, a medication call Dobutamine is used to stimulate the heart while images are taken using sound waves.
  • Metabolic Stress Test  This test requires exercise (usually walking on a treadmill) and a mouthpiece to collect the air you breathe in and out. A machine will analyze your breathing and provide important information for your doctor about how your heart, lungs and muscles respond to exercise. This test may also be called a cardiopulmonary stress test or oxygen uptake/consumption test (VO2)
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) - This allows your physician to record images of your heart from inside your esophagus (or food pipe). Because the esophagus lies just behind the heart, TEE may produce clearer pictures of the heart's movement than would a standard echocardiography.
