I always wanted to be a nurse!
Nursing is something that I always knew I wanted to do, so when I came into the system in 1978 as a customer service representative, I was already taking pre-requisites at Henry Ford Community College. Some personal issues prevented me from continuing that training, but with the encouragement of my supervisors, I returned to school in 1990. So, I was married, working part time as a medical assistant at Fairlane and raising a family.  It took a while but I persevered and received my nursing degree in 2001. I became a nurse leader in 2004 and took the supervisor position in 2005.

What do I do?
I oversee two clinics, but I do have a nurse leader in each department who works under me. I manage 44 staff members and I work with a total of 19 providers - physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives and physician assistants. I handle a wide variety of leadership duties such as implementing programs, setting schedules for nurses and providers, handling employee issues and patient concerns. 

Why I love it!
I like the hours, not having to work holidays or odd shifts. I like the challenge. I like being able to have the authority to implement change. It's a very supportive environment for nurses. Everyone looking at nursing or working toward a degree is encouraged by the leadership here to complete their training.
