The Henry Ford Health System is one of the nation's largest integrated health care systems, with an international reputation for excellence in both the science and art of health care and healing. Among the components of Henry Ford are are five owned hospitals (including the flagship Henry Ford Hospital), an insurance company (Health Alliance Plan) and the Henry Ford Medical Group (HFMG), one of the nation's largest group practices consisting of 900 salaried physicians and scientists in 40 medical specialties that staff Henry Ford Hospital and more than 25 suburban medical centers.
Henry Ford Health System also is affiliated with more than 2,000 private practitioners that staff our community hospitals, including an Osteopathic Division. In addition to the Henry Ford's seamless array of acute, specialty, primary, and preventive care services, it also trains more than 700 residents and fellows annually, as well as more than 300 medical students from 10 medical schools.
Henry Ford is supported by a $70 million research program, the majority of which is externally funded, and includes numerous research activities in the neurosciences. Henry Ford ranks in the top 5 percent of all institutions granted funding by the National Institutes of Health.
Henry Ford's Department of Psychiatry is one of the largest academic mental health systems in the country and has won numerous awards for excellence in mental health and substance abuse services, including the Joint Commission's Ernest Amory Codman Award (2006) and the Gold Achievement Award of the American Psychiatric Association (2006). Our size, clinical excellence, patient diversity, broad array of treatments, superb teachers, and research opportunities, make our department an ideal choice for learning the "art and science" of medicine in the setting of a large medical group practice. We are committed to your development as a person, a physician, and a leader in the medical community.
Please consider a visit to our department and health system, during which I will be delighted to meet with you personally. And don't hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do to help you with your selection of a training program.
