Changing the concept of hospital food
No fried foods. Low salt. No processed sugar. Primarily vegetarian dishes. Only lean white meat or fish - little red meat.
Hospital food is healthy, nutritious and tasty.
A food revolution in health care has begun at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, which opened March 15, 2009. Here, the quality and appeal of food has been made a priority simply because nutritious, good-tasting food provides the energy and nutrients patients need.
Unique recipes that inspire patients to eat the healthy food they need were created especially for the hospital by a well-known local restaurateur.
The kitchen is always open for patients at the hospital, helping to reduce waste by allowing patients to eat what they want, when they want it.
To help patients and their families continue on the path to wellness, the hospital offers classes in a beautiful, fully equipped demonstration kitchen.
The hospital is also creating the Culinary Institute for Health Care, the first of its kind in the world, to train industry chefs from around the world to follow the Henry Ford model in educating the community, encourage healthy eating and promoting overall wellness.
