When to Consider Hospice

Generally, hospice care is appropriate for patients who have a life expectancy of about six months and have either declined or elected to discontinue curative medical treatment. However, any person with a life-limiting illness is eligible for hospice services.

Hospice offers effective methods of pain and symptom control to allow patients to remain alert and to live life as fully and as comfortably as possible. Hospice emphasizes human values that go beyond the physical needs of the patient, and hospice team members are trained to address emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient and family members.
