		<title>Henry Ford Hospital Names New Chair of Women&amp;#8217;s Health</title>

Dr. Munkarah is clinical professor at Wayne State School of Medicine and is well known throughout Michigan for his expertise in the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology which includes treatment for tumors in the ovary, uterus, vagina and vulva. &amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;/p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;Educated at the American University of Beirut, Dr. Munkarah trained in both internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology at the Detroit Medical Center. After completing his oncology fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, he returned to Detroit where he directed the division of gynecologic oncology at Wayne State School of Medicine and Hutzel Women&amp;rsquo;s Hospital and also served in leadership roles at Karmanos Cancer Center. &amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;/p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;Most recently, Dr. Munkarah has been on leave from Wayne State to serve as the director of obstetrics and gynecology at King Faisal Hospital in Saudi Arabia. At Wayne State he won teaching awards and is listed among &amp;ldquo;Best Doctors in America&amp;rdquo;. He has maintained a strong interest in research and has an impressive record of both peer reviewed publications and invited lectureships here and abroad. Dr. Munkarah assumes the leadership role from former chair, Ronald Strickler, M.D. who provided leadership of the department for more than a decade. In this, the inaugural year, only 16 of ILCA&amp;#39;s 4,700 members worldwide have earned the title. &amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;/p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;Smith has been assisting breastfeeding women for more than 20 years, first as a La Leche League Leader beginning in 1982 and as a board certified lactation consultant since 1988. She is also a registered nurse and certified childbirth educator. Currently she belongs to Michigan Association of Lactation Consultants and serves as its newsletter editor. &amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;/p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;&lt;p&gt;&amp;#13;&amp;#10;There are over 17,000 International Board Certified Lactation Consultants in over 60 countries around the world.
