“Outlined against a blue-gray November sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as Famine, Pestilence, Destruction and Death. These are only aliases.” Their real names are Folt, Deledda, Miller, and Lewandowski……(and don’t forget Baliga, Vohra, & Guyer).
The annual Turkey Bowl was played on November 18, 2017 under near perfect conditions at Catalpa Oaks Park in Southfield. With a 20 mph wind, intermittent rain, and a temperature in the low 40’s, the muddy conditions were optimal. Senior resident, Nick Robell, led a team of residents that seemed to have worked a few too many midnights preceding the game. Many thanks to Phyllis Vallee for arranging the resident schedule. Christopher Lewandowski both played a mean middle linebacker and provided expert unbiased refereeing. Our fearless chair, John Deledda, relentlessly pummeled the resident linemen. Other notable staff that aided in the vanquish of the residents were Sudhir Baliga, Jason Folt, Taher Vohra, and nursing colleagues, Adam McGruther and Osama Ahmed.
The bespattered residents were addled by the staff play and went down in defeat by a score of 21-7. This brings the storied series statistics to an impressive 35 staff victories, 1 resident victory (still under protest), and 1 tie. Putting this prodigious accomplishment in perspective, if the residents win every game from now until 2052, the series will be even.
