Trevor R Banka, MD

Biographical Statement

Trevor Banka, MD, is a fellowship trained adult reconstructive orthopaedic surgeon. He grew up in Port Huron, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated with honors in Microbiology. He then completed his medical degree at Michigan State University. 

Dr. Banka did his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan before traveling to New York to complete the prestigious Adult Reconstructive and Joint Replacement Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which is the number one ranked orthopaedic hospital and training program in the United States.

As a current member of the Henry Ford Medical Group, he runs a busy orthopaedic reconstructive practice at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, performing more than 800 arthroplasty surgeries each year. He specializes in primary, complex and revision total joint replacement, and his training includes minimally invasive hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, direct anterior total hip replacement, robotic surgery and computer assisted surgery. He also specializes in the treatment of painful, failed or infected joint replacements.

Dr. Banka’s patient care philosophy encompasses a personalized care approach with rapid recovery protocols after surgery. He strives to be down-to-earth and personable, while providing the highest quality care. His professional goal is to make Henry Ford Health the best place in the world to have a hip or knee replacement.

Research Interests

Dr. Banka has extensive experience with and has published research on handheld navigation, robotics, technology in joint replacements, post operative pain control, and patient reported outcome measures, which he believes is the gold standard of success. During his studies, he also presented clinical and basic science research at national and international orthopaedic societal meetings.

Dr. Banka has a particular interest in technology in orthopaedic surgery and has performed more ROSA Robotic knee replacements than anyone in the world, making him an international leader in robotic knee replacements. In addition, he has traveled all over the world sharing his knowledge of robotic joint replacements with other surgeons.
