I was first introduced to Henry Ford as a medical student. Though I rotated at different programs throughout my medical school career, Henry Ford stood apart from the rest. The biggest attractor for me was the institution’s investment into resident education. This was not unique to General Surgery, and applied to all other departments as well. I knew that I would be successful in this program because of this investment as it leads to a culture that emphasizes education and development.
The second reason of why I chose Henry Ford as my top choice was the patient population. An inner-city population as that of Henry Ford poses many challenges and opportunities. With a wider variety of pathology and patient backgrounds, it became clear to me that I would be more prepared graduating from a program such as Henry Ford. I knew that I would be learning a lot through my patients and have the opportunity to make a huge difference in their lives.
