Henry Ford Busts Out Breast Health Boot Camps

DETROIT – Henry Ford Health System is rolling out Breast Health Boot Camps in Detroit, Macomb, West Bloomfield and Wyandotte during Breast Cancer Awareness Month as a way to bring together nutrition with the latest information on breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment.

The camps include cooking demonstrations and panel discussions with Henry Ford breast cancer physicians.

The cost to attend each boot camp is $10 and registration is required. Boot Camps will be held at the following locations:

  • Oct. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital’s Medical Pavilion, 15855 19 Mile Rd. in Clinton Township. Wellness Chef Michelle Bommarito, who has appeared on The Food Network and Martha Stewart Living, will provide a culinary demonstration on nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle. And, Henry Ford breast cancer expert Laura Dalla Vecchia, M.D., will answer questions on breast cancer prevention. Participants will receive recipe samples and healthy snacks.   • Oct. 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Demonstration Kitchen at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, 6777 W. Maple. The hospital’s chef will prepare foods that help contribute to overall good health and an exercise expert will share tips on relaxation that can improve breast health. Additionally, Henry Ford breast cancer experts Jessica Bensenhaver, M.D., and Patricia Miller, M.D., will give updates on the newest breast cancer research and technology.   • Oct. 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Henry Ford Medical Center-Brownstown, 23050 West Rd. in Brownstown Township.   • Oct. 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Gilmour Center at Henry Ford’s One Ford Place, 1 Ford Place in Detroit. Wellness Chef Michelle Bommarito, who has appeared on The Food Network and Martha Stewart Living, will provide a culinary demonstration on nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, Henry Ford breast cancer experts Lisa Newman, M.D., and Eleanor Walker, M.D., will answer questions on early detection and prevention, and exercise during treatment.
