My patient care philosophy can be expressed in three words: results mean everything. I am committed to patient-centered care and will always empathize and share a common set of goals with the patient. In order to do so, I will provide patients with a complete understanding of their various treatment options, as well as any associated benefits or risks.
Following my residency and fellowship training at Henry Ford Hospital, I joined the University of Chicago in 1989 as a full-time academic vascular surgeon, where I continued to practice for 25 years. I utilized both open surgery and minimally invasive endovascular interventions (balloons, stents, etc.) for the treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and stroke, lower extremity circulatory insufficiency, blockage of intestinal and kidney arteries, dialysis access, and venous diseases, such as varicose veins and clots. In addition to more than 30 years of clinical expertise, I served as Professor and Chief of the University of Chicago's Vascular Section and educated many residents and fellows in vascular medicine. In 2011, I returned to Egypt, my country of origin, to serve a community in dire need of my expertise, before eventually returning to my Alma Mater, Henry Ford Hospital, in 2018 to join the Heart and Vascular Institute. I currently utilize cutting-edge techniques and advanced stents for treatment of aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and lower extremity artery blockage.
My clinical, basic and translational research interests encompass the areas related to hemodynamic (blood flow) and atherosclerosis/re-narrowing of blood vessels after various surgical or catheter based procedures (e.g., stenting), and carotid artery plaque structure and rupture. I have authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in the vascular field.
