About Me
Biographical Statement
Dr. Hema Iyer joined Henry Ford Health System as chief medical officer of Kingswood Hospital in October 2020. Her clinical interests include severe persistent mental illness and first episode psychosis, and she has worked with these patients in the acute psychiatric setting for the past 16 years. She’s passionate about improving access to care for individuals with mental health needs and violence prevention across the continuum of psychiatric and behavioral health. She has helped develop protocols for treatment of aggression in the emergency department and acute inpatient settings and led a Violence Prevention Task Force to minimize harm to patients and hospital staff. She has served in leadership roles including vice chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Tower Health in Reading, PA and president of the medical staff at Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute in Harrisburg, PA.
Dr. Iyer completed her medical training from M.G.R. Medical University in India and her residency training in Psychiatry from Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. She served as the chief resident in her fourth year and received the Janssen Award for Outstanding Psychiatry Resident.
