Formal Referral Process

Henry Ford ENHANCE referrals are made by a leader and/or Human Resource professional when an employee has an attendance, work performance,or behavioral problem that is not resolved through normal supervisory counseling or disciplinary action with the intention of salvaging the employee through correction of the behavior.

A supervisor should consider referring an employee to ENHANCE when:

  1. An employee has a recurring work problem. This could be a series of different problems or the same problem recurring at various times.
  2. An employee is receiving disciplinary action
  3. An employee has some work-related problems AND acknowledges a personal problem.

There are two types of leadership referrals: informal and formal. Depending on the type of referral, the employee may or may not be asked to sign a release of disclosure. With a signed release of disclosure, and to ensure complete confidentiality during this process, the information to be shared with supervisors is limited to whether or not the employee is compliant with the referral and, whether or not the employee contacts EAP within an allotted timeframe.

ENHANCE counselors are able to resolve most situations when the employee is referred early on, before disciplinary action is warranted. In most instances, our intervention results in successfully rehabilitating the employee’s performance. Consider a management consultation with an ENHANCE counselor to assist in the determination of the referral.
