Patient Perspectives Part 2
"I use my eyes a lot - I'm a programmer, I quilt, I sketch, I garden and I read constantly. I was severely myopic and had been wearing corrective lenses since I was ten. Basically I was just tired of it - tired of dealing with all the solutions and not having good vision no matter what I did. The older I got, the shorter period of time I could wear my contacts, and because I couldn't wear my contacts for long, I was having to wear glasses more and more. My prescription was so heavy I would get sinus headaches. Even when I bought half glasses and had my prescription put in those, they were so heavy that I had difficulty breathing with my glasses on. Now I have vision that's as good as I wanted it to be. I'm delighted - more than satisfied. I've recommended Laser Vision Correction to a number of people.
"In fact, my daughter had the procedure before I did. I was really jealous. Her vision was getting so bad, and she was only in her early twenties. She loves it. For her, it was more for cosmetic reasons, but for me it's functional. Little things like waking up in the middle of the night and being able to see are wonderful. I can drive at night now, and I couldn't do that before. And there's a safety issue too. If you hear a strange noise in the middle of the night, it's fairly daunting to think you need glasses to see what is going on. Laser Vision Correction is absolutely the best thing I've ever done for myself, and I believe that strongly.
"I chose Henry Ford because they had the hospital behind them. That made me feel a lot safer. I'm a very visual person and my eyesight is the most important thing I have. I wasn't going to take any chances on someone I didn't trust completely. The staff and doctors at Henry Ford were wonderful, and I had complete confidence in letting them take care of my vision. After the procedure was over I went home and went to bed. The next morning I woke up and I had perfect vision. It was magic.
"Prior to the Laser Vision Correction my vision was so ghastly that I couldn't see the green signs on the freeway. I couldn't see the lines in my hand. It was really bad. Now I can see. I can look out my window across to a grove of trees 300 feet away. Before I wouldn't have been able to see the separate trees and certainly not the separate leaves or the colors. Now I see it all. It's incredible and it's magic."
