Tips to prevent sports injuries
Many sports injuries can be prevented with proper form and conditioning. Use these tips to continue enjoying your favorite sports, injury-free:
- Cross-train: It’s easy to fall into a workout routine you enjoy. However, it’s important to condition all your muscle groups. Shoot for a good mix of cardio, strength, and flexibility exercises in your training plan.
- Eat and hydrate properly: Follow a nutrition plan that includes a balance of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and plenty of water. This will help you build stronger muscles and avoid dehydration.
- Listen to your body: If you experience pain during exercise, or if you’re diagnosed with a sports injury, take time off. Though it’s frustrating to sit out of practice and play, it can help prevent more severe injuries down the line.
- Warm up and cool down: Before exercise or competition, warm up with light cardio and gentle, active stretches. After a workout, cool down the same way. This will help relieve muscle tension and increase flexibility.
