Henry Ford Health Referral Line

Why choose Henry Ford Neurosciences?

Since 1993, the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center has been a national leader in the treatment of primary, recurrent, and metastatic brain tumors. Our multidisciplinary program integrates neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, radiation oncology, and precision diagnostics to deliver coordinated, evidence-based care—supported by broad access to clinical trials, including therapies not available elsewhere in Michigan. With deep experience across complex and aggressive disease, our team continues to advance brain tumor care through innovation, research, and specialized programs for metastatic brain cancer.

Patients are prioritized for timely evaluation by experienced neurosurgeons and neuro-oncologists, with appointments typically scheduled within 48 business hours of referral. Most patients requiring MRI imaging are scheduled for same-day imaging and provider review whenever clinically appropriate, supporting faster clinical decision-making.

  • Comprehensive Care
    • Care is delivered through a coordinated, multidisciplinary model, offering convenient access to neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, radiation oncology, and supportive services, including behavioral health, social work, and palliative care.
    • Treatment is provided onsite at Henry Ford or at one of our satellite locations, ensuring continuity of care close to home when possible.
    • Every case is reviewed by a specialized brain tumor multidisciplinary team, with dedicated tumor boards for primary brain tumors, metastatic brain disease, and spine malignancies.
    • As a leader in Precision Medicine, the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center partners with the Center for Precision Diagnostics to integrate advanced molecular and genomic testing into treatment planning, informing targeted therapy selection, clinical trial eligibility, and genetic counseling.
    • Patient-derived tumor models (“avatars”) enable clinicians to evaluate anticipated treatment responses based on an individual tumor’s biology, helping guide therapy selection and advance personalized care strategies.
  • Expert Team
    • We have treated over 8,000 brain tumor patients since 1993 and see 300+ new brain tumor patients annually.
    • Since 1993, our brain tumor center has been recognized by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for delivering leading brain tumor therapies. Henry Ford was among a select group of the nation’s centers – and the only one in Michigan – chosen to participate in the NCI-funded Adult Brain Tumor Consortium (ABTC) and Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC).
    • We have treated more than 1,900 people with glioblastoma, the most aggressive primary brain tumor. In addition, our brain tumor team led the development of new national guidelines for progressive glioblastoma.
    • In 2025, we collected the 6,000th tumor sample in our Brain Tumor Bank. The bank has grown into one of the largest and most respected tumor banks in the world – a resource that continues to power discoveries and transform how we understand, diagnose and treat brian tumors.
