We Believe Kids Can Be Healthy
Henry Ford Health System has recently created a fun and simple way to help Michigan's children create brighter and healthier futures. With our motivating program Let's Get Healthy! kids ages 9-13 can learn about and take dramatic steps toward understanding the importance of diet and exercise in just 10 weeks.
Through Let's Get Healthy! Henry Ford physicians educate both parents and children on how to live an ongoing health and active lifestyle using easy-to-follow guidelines. Best of all, the program requires both child and parent to participate together so that kids will stay motivated in their journey.
Let's Surround them with Care
Unlike many programs that rely on one instructor or point of view, Let's Get Healthy! offers guidance, insights and education from a team of dedicated Henry Ford experts from multiple disciplines, including a pediatrician, nutritionist, behavioral health therapist and athletic trainer.
Working together, these committed individuals collaborate with you and your child to offer specific individualized solutions. The Let's Get Healthy! team shares a passion for reaching children using engaging messages that reshape thinking on food, nutrition and exercise. With an emphasis on behavior modification, participants develop a healthy lifestyle by increasing their knowledge of proper nutrition and exercise.
Topics for Making Healthy Living Fun
- Nutrition: Children will learn about mindful eating and are taught how to keep a food journal. Discussions on portion sizes, label reading, making smarter fast food and snack choices, cooking quick and healthy meals, effective grocery shopping strategies and more are held.
- Behavior Modification: Here, the importance of setting goals is explored. Children are taught how to set reasonable goals as well as how to maintain their goals and celebrate their successes. Further conversations and training offer fresh perspectives on staying motivated, body image, building self esteem, emotional eating, stress and time management, responsibility and accountability, peer influence, bullying and coping skills.
- Physical Activity: Exercise is a proven way to burn calories and keep weight off. For this reason, we offer a wide variety of fun activities with something for everyone. Children are shown free and affordable ways to exercise through various physical activities using household items, stretch bands, circuit training, dance videos, relays, yoga and more. They'll also learn great tips on how to maintain an active lifestyle.
