Creative Mindfulness With Art

The sessions are designed for people of all ages to participate and are guided by an Art Therapist. A new project will be offered every week. Topics covered will focus on self-awareness, support systems, gratitude, and reframing negative thoughts.

NOTE: If no participants join the call/class within 15 minutes after the start time, the call/class will end.

To assist you in the virtual sessions, the descriptions and suggested supplies to have on hand are listed for each week. Sometimes a link to print a template is provided. Just click on the link below to view and print. 


12/1 and 12/2: Balance
Supplies needed: paper, scissors, colored pencils or markers
Description: We all need some balance in our lives! In this session we will imagine how we might arrange the elements in our lives to create balance.

12/8 and 12/9: Positive Memories
Supplies needed: paper, pen, pencils, or markers
Description: We will take a few minutes to reflect on and describe a happy memory from this past year. Then, we will illustrate the memory to help reinforce the positive feedback.

12/15 and 12/16: Ripples of positive energy
Supplies needed: paper, watercolor paint, pen, marker, or pencil
Description: Today we will create a peaceful and relaxing image resembling ripples of water as a reminder to focus on our self-care.  

1/5 and 1/6: One Little Word
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils, markers, watercolor supplies if you prefer
Description: what is one little word that will help you focus your positive energy throughout the year?

1/12 and 1/13: Found Poetry 
Supplies needed: printed text, pencil, markers or pens (Template 1, Template 2, Template 3)
Description: In this session we will create a new poem or statement using a page torn from an old book (or printed from the available examples). 

1/19 and 1/20: Emotions in a Bottle
Supplies needed: paper, pen for writing, markers or pencils

Description: If you could illustrate your emotions, what would they look like? Using the template, label the jars with your emotions and “fill” them with that emotion. Imagine that you can put some emotions away for a while and pull out other emotions that you need more of right now. You choose

1/26 and 1/27: Watercolor Painting to Music
Supplies needed: paper, paint and brush
Description: We will create an abstract painting while listening to music and focus on being present and relaxing

2/2 and 2/3: M.O.D. (Mantra of the Day) 
Supplies needed: paper, pens, markers, or pencils, scissors, tape (optional)
Description: What reminder do you need most throughout the day? Choose your mantra of the day to carry with you as a personal reminder when you need it.

2/9 and 2/10: Origami Heart Message
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils, markers, scissors
Description: Create a love note to yourself! Self-love and self compassion are important daily practices 

2/16 and 2/17: Beautiful Frustration
Supplies needed: paper, markers
Description: We will turn our frustration into something beautiful while letting go of what we cannot control. 

2/23 and 2/24: Can and Cannot Control
Supplies needed: paper (template optional), pen, pencil, or markers
Description: Sometimes we need a reminder about the things we can control and the things we cannot control. Redirect your focus to balance your energy. 
 
3/2 and 3/3: Positive Memories

Description: We will take a few minutes to reflect on and describe a happy memory from this past year. Then, we will illustrate the memory to help reinforce the positive feedback.

3/9 and 3/10: Listening to Images
Supplies needed: paper, watercolor paint and paper, or any other drawing materials
Description: When you close your eyes and listen - what do you hear? What does that look like? Today we will Illustrate the sounds we hear as a way to practice awareness.

3/16 and 3/17: Grow your strengths

Supplies needed: paper, pen for writing, markers or pencils

We will be focusing on our own personal strengths and how we can encourage ourselves with love and self-compassion. We all have personal traits that we love and some that we might want to change. This exercise helps guide you through a process of self-awareness. 

3/23 and 3/24: Ripples of positive energy
Supplies needed: paper, watercolor paint, pen, marker, or pencil
Description: Today we will create a peaceful and relaxing image resembling ripples of water as a reminder to focus on our self-care.  
In center of page with pen write a word that you want to focus on: Calm, Love, Courage… with the watercolor paint and brush, slowly paint circles around the word from the center out

3/30 and 3/31: Abstract Art Association
Supplies needed: paper, pen for writing, markers or pencils
Description: do you ever think about what is going on in your subconscious? What is our brain trying to tell us… In this session, we will examine and describe an abstract image, then create a new image through a process of analyzing our own words. 
 
4/6 and 4/7: Energy to Spend 
Supplies needed: paper, pens, markers, or pencils, scissors, glue or tape
Description: Some days we have more energy than other days - if you had a set amount of energy to spend today, how would you spend it?

4/13 and 4/14: Community Gardens
Supplies needed: paper, markers (Template)
Description: imagine how all the various seeds in a garden grow into beautiful, unique wonders of nature… each seed begins with an intention - each receives nourishment and weathers storms on its own - growing stronger together.
In this session, we will honor the experiences that brought us to where we are now - and celebrate the path and experiences of others in our community

4/20 and 4/21:Mandala
Supplies needed: template available - use a pencil
Description: Mandala is the Sanskrit word for circle and often represents the universe. We will be creating a mandala using guidelines for a relaxing process resulting in a beautiful finished image

4/27 and 4/28: Positive by Design
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils, markers
Description: Some days we struggle with all the negative thoughts and news that we see everywhere we look. However, we have the choice to change our thoughts. This exercise will help us to reframe our negative thoughts and concepts into a positive goal to strive for
 
5/4 and 5/5: Found Poetry (Template 1Template 2Template 3)

5/11 and 5/12: Positive Memories

5/18 and 5/19: Inkblot
Supplies needed: paper, paint or ink
Description: Creating an Inkblot image is a simple process that can create a dramatic result. Does the shape look like something specific to you or give you a certain feeling? 

5/25 and 5/26: Pockets
Supplies needed: paper, magazine image (optional), glue stick, scissors, markers, pencils
Description: Pockets can be a safe place to hold something important. Think about the pocket you created and what you will keep inside it?


The materials you should have ready for the classes are:

  • Paper- which may include any of the following: printer paper, drawing paper, old mail envelopes, paper bags, wrapping paper, etc.
  • Pencil
  • Pens
  • Markers
  • Colored pencils
  • Glue / glue stick
  • Magazine (to cut up for collage)
  • Pages from an old book (I can provide text to be printed at home for found poetry project)

All of the projects will be completed using items you probably already have on hand. We do not expect you to make large purchases for supplies. The Art Therapist will be able to assist you with modifications to the project with the materials you have.
