ICU Medications - Interpreting medications to provide safe and effective PT and OT intervention

This online webinar will provide information to critical care therapists to expand their knowledge of common medications given to patients in the ICU. Therapists must have an understanding of the impact of medications on their patients’ ability to participate in therapy. This course will review medications that affect: hemodynamics, arousal, pain, psychosis and neuromuscular receptors. Attendees will learn how their patients may present, how to collaborate with the medical team regarding provision of therapy, tips to determine the intensity of intervention, and when therapy should be deferred.

Course Objectives: As a result of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify common medications used in the ICU that may effect interventions provided by PT and OT
  2. Identify ways that your patient may present during treatment
  3. To be able to determine whether or not therapy intervention is warranted despite the presence of these medications

Credits: This course meets the criteria for 1.0 contact hours/CEUs, as approved by APTA Michigan, and qualifies for NBCOT PDUs. Please check with your state licensing body to determine if course is eligible for CEUs in your state.
