Stroke is Not a Single Event
Where you receive care matters — at every stage. At Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, stroke care is a coordinated journey—from the moment symptoms begin through advanced treatment and recovery.
When it comes to stroke, every minute matters. Fast recognition leads to faster treatment—and better outcomes.
The stroke care continuum at Macomb Hospital
-
Recognition
When it comes to stroke, every minute matters. Fast recognition leads to faster treatment and better outcomes. Use the B.E.F.A.S.T. acronym to recognize the warning signs of stroke and know when to call 911.
- Balance Loss
Is the person suddenly dizzy, unsteady, or having trouble walking? - Eyesight Changes
Has there been sudden blurred vision, double vision, or loss of vision in one or both eyes? - Face Drooping
Is one side of the face drooping or numb? Ask the person to smile — is it uneven? - Arm Weakness
Is one arm weak or numb? Ask them to raise both arms — does one drift downward? - Speech Difficulty
Is speech slurred, strange, or hard to understand? Can they repeat a simple sentence? - Time to Call 911
If you see ANY of these signs, call 911 immediately. Note the time symptoms started.
