You may be treated by a physician assistant, under the supervision of a doctor, depending on your injury or condition. You also may interact with allied health professionals, including paramedics, nursing assistants and medical receptionists.

  • When should I go to the ER instead of urgent care?

Visit the ER for chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, stroke symptoms, head injuries, broken bones, severe abdominal pain, or any condition that feels life-threatening. For minor illnesses, low-grade fevers, sprains, and small cuts, urgent care or your primary care provider may be appropriate. When in doubt, choose the ER or call 911.
