If you and your baby are challenged by difficulties such as latching on, painful nursing, or baby’s slow weight gain, our lactation consultants are available for breastfeeding support. Let them help you with lifestyle changes or health challenges that may impact your family.

In addition to prenatal and postnatal breastfeeding education, our lactation consultants can answer questions, offer personalized counseling and supply you with useful literature and resources.

Breastfeeding challenges

Lactation consultants provide support for more common nursing issues, such as pumping and storing breast milk, too little or too much milk production, nursing a colicky baby, or planning for returning to work while breastfeeding.

At Henry Ford, our experts can also support you in these challenging situations:

  • Premature baby
  • Inverted nipples
  • Twins or multiple babies
  • Nursing an adopted baby
  • Returning to nursing after a break
  • Infections, such as mastitis or thrush (yeast infection)
  • Special needs, such as a baby with Down Syndrome, cleft lip and/or palate
