About Me
Biographical Statement
Robert A. Knight, PhD, is a medical physicist and neuroscience researcher at Henry Ford Health whose work has advanced the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study stroke and other neurological disorders. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and his doctorate in medical physics from Oakland University, where he developed the foundation for a career spanning advanced neuroimaging and translational research.
Dr. Knight's research focuses on developing and applying quantitative MRI, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and other imaging methods to better understand ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, intracerebral tumor, diabetes-related changes in the brain, and cardiac and renal physiology. His work has helped establish imaging methods that measure blood-brain barrier integrity, cerebral blood flow, tissue injury and recovery following stroke, providing valuable tools for evaluating disease progression and potential therapies. He has collaborated extensively with multidisciplinary teams to translate advanced imaging technologies from preclinical models to applications that support clinical research. Through numerous peer-reviewed publications, his research has contributed to a deeper understanding of cerebrovascular disease and the role of imaging biomarkers.
Dr. Knight collaborates with physician-scientists, neuroscientists and imaging specialists to advance innovative imaging approaches that improve the understanding and treatment of cerebrovascular disease. His ongoing research supports the development of noninvasive imaging techniques that can guide future therapeutic strategies and improve patient outcomes.
