Health Psychology Practicum Training Programs
The Section of Health Psychology at Henry Ford Health offers a health psychology practicum training program in Transplant Surgery and Bariatric Surgery.
The practicum program was first established in the early 2000’s.
Mission
Our mission is to provide a major are of study for health psychology training in clinical service delivery with health-related issues of patients, family members and interprofessional care teams. At least 50% of trainee time will be devoted to training in our health psychology practicum programs with direct patient assessment, short-term health psychology-oriented treatment and consultation/liaison work with interdisciplinary medical/surgical teams. We apply psychological science and methods to the provision of health care services for our patients and encourage the use of such within interprofessional care teams.
Goals
Trainees will build strong diagnostic, intervention planning and treatment skills in health psychology. They will develop competence in diagnostic procedures, case conceptualization, and treatment planning based on an empirical tradition as applied within the context of the realities of modern health care and with sensitivity to the individual and cultural needs of their patients. They will be prepared for health psychology internship.
