Sleep Disorders Medicine

Duration: 4 weeks

Distribution of student's time:
80% outpatient care
20% conferences/lectures

Enrollment/Period: 1 maximum, upon availability

Prerequisites: Must be 4th-year medical student. Completion of core clerkship in Medicine and Psychiatry, July - May

Clerkship Objectives:

  • Provide sufficient exposure and experience in the field of sleep medicine to understand how to approach, work up and treat the patient with sleep disorders
  • This rotation exposes you to the most common sleep disorders including sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy and insomnia
  • It will also help you to have basic understanding of in-laboratory and portable polysomnography

Methods to be used in student evaluation:

  • Observation of performance by faculty
  • Assessment of write-ups/reports

This course offers to the medical student the opportunity to learn the pathophysiology, diagnosis and general therapeutic approaches to Sleep Disorders. It is conducted in the outpatient.
