Program Tracks

Osteopathic Recognition Track

Henry Ford Health Providence Family Medicine Residency is ACGME accredited with an Osteopathic Recognition Track. Our program has been dedicated to Osteopathic Practices and Principles for many years.

All residents are welcome to be part of the Osteopathic Recognition Track. MD candidates will need to do additional work outside of residency to develop their Osteopathic skills including a hands-on Osteopathic Manipulation conference. Our Osteopathic Recognition Track residents are eligible for board certification by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians and/or the American Board of Family Medicine. Our residents have maintained a 100% board pass rate for the AOBFP and/or the ABFM for more than 5 years.

The integration of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is encouraged and supported by all faculty. There are many opportunities to increase your Osteopathic Manipulation.

  • Outpatient Osteopathic Manipulation Clinic: Both Family Medicine Centers have a dedicated OMT clinic every week. Osteopathic Recognition Tracks rotate through these clinics throughout their residency. They are staffed by our Osteopathic Faculty.
  • Inpatient Osteopathic Manipulation: All residents are welcome to perform OMT on hospitalized patients. More than half of our faculty are DOs and can supervise treatment.
  • Osteopathic Didactics: Osteopathic Recognition Track residents attend monthly didactics for additional practice. This is a 3-year curriculum which takes a different approach each year. Ex: Year 1: OMT by technique. Year 2: OMT by body region. Year 3: OMT by disease process.
  • Osteopathic Rotation: All Osteopathic Recognition Track residents will have a month-long rotation in Osteopathy. This will include four ½ days of OMT clinics per week and inpatient OMT.
