Processional Nurse Development Opportunities

Professionalism is a belief system grounded in shared competency standards and ethical values. In nursing, professionalism is essential to creating a healthy work environment that supports safe patient care, high-quality outcomes, and staff satisfaction. Activities that promote professionalism include advancing one’s education and obtaining specialty certification.

Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital offers a variety of professional development programs designed to support nurses at every stage of their career, including:

  • Professional Nurse Advancement Program (PNAP)
Available to clinical nurses who work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with 50% of time spent in direct patient care. This four-level clinical ladder includes defined eligibility criteria and reimbursement opportunities at each level.
  • Tuition and Specialty Certification Reimbursement
Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital invests in your professional growth by offering tuition reimbursement and specialty certification reimbursement, helping nurses advance their education and expertise.
  • Nurse Residency Program (NRP)
Available to all newly graduated nurses and any nurse with less than six months of hospital experience, this program supports the transition into professional practice by developing critical thinking skills, clinical knowledge, and confidence. The residency provides structured education, mentoring, and support throughout the nurse’s first year of practice.
  • Mentorship Program
Provides a supportive professional relationship between a nurse resident mentee and an experienced mentor. The focus is on professional development, career growth, and social support.
  • Preceptor Program
Supports the professional growth and transition of nurses through structured guidance, hands-on learning, and role modeling. This program emphasizes evidence-based practice, professional accountability, and relationship-centered care.
  • Continuing Educational Opportunities
Incudes access to free contact-hour education, monthly Journal Club offerings, and a wide range of additional learning opportunities.
  • Regional and National Conference Participation
Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital supports staff attendance at regional and national conferences, as well as internal opportunities such as Henry Ford Health annual Research and Quality Expos.
  • Shared Governance Council Membership
Nurses are encouraged to participate in Shared Governance Councils, providing opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and involvement in decision-making that impacts nursing practice.
