Mission Statement
The mission of our Epilepsy Fellowship Program here at Henry Ford Health is to train compassionate, knowledgeable, and skilled epileptologists who are committed to transforming the lives of people with epilepsy. Our program offers an immersive clinical experience, advanced neurophysiology training, and engagement with pioneering research, ensuring that fellows gain the depth and breadth needed to diagnose and treat the entire spectrum of seizure disorders. Guided by a faculty dedicated to collaboration, mentorship, and innovation, our fellowship fosters a culture of patient-centered care, academic rigor, and lifelong growth. Graduates emerge not only as expert clinicians but also as trailblazers in research, education, and advocacy—prepared to advance the field of epilepsy care locally, nationally, and globally.
Program Aims
- Clinical Excellence in Patient Care Fellows will demonstrate competence in providing comprehensive, patient-centered care across the spectrum of epilepsy disorders through rotations in inpatient Epilepsy monitoring units, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary care settings.
- Mastery of EEG and Neurophysiology Fellows will achieve advanced competence in interpreting routine, and long-term video-EEG monitoring studies, as well as related neurophysiological techniques, to support accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment.
- Teaching, Leadership, and Professional Growth Fellows will demonstrate the ability to teach and mentor trainees and colleagues, actively contribute to educational activities such as didactic sessions, journal clubs, and conferences, and develop leadership skills essential for future academic or clinical roles.
- Scholarly Activity and Research Fellows will engage in scholarly inquiry, including clinical research, quality improvement, and/or translational projects, and demonstrate competence in study design, data analysis, and dissemination of results through presentations and publications.
- Systems-Based and Multidisciplinary Practice Fellows will collaborate effectively with neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals to deliver safe, coordinated, and cost-effective care to individuals with epilepsy. 6. Professionalism and Lifelong Learning Fellows will demonstrate professionalism, effective communication with patients and families, advocacy for individuals with epilepsy, and commitment to ongoing self-assessment and continuous learning throughout their careers.
