HFO/Capuchin Eye Care Clinic
In 2014, Capuchin partnered with Henry Ford OptimEyes (HFO) to open a free eye clinic for the soup kitchen guests. Once a month, a HFO doctors, technicians, dispensers and eye wear consultants volunteer at the HFO/Capuchin Eye Care Clinic. During their visit, 15-20 guests receive a free dilated eye examination. Glasses are produced off site at a Henry Ford OptimEyes laboratory and dispensed the following month. It’s likely the only way Capuchin guests can receive eyewear. During the month of July, a special clinic is held for school children only so that kids are not taken out of school for their eye exams and can receive their glasses right before the new school year.
