Internal Medicine Residency Program Overview

The IM Residency at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program designed to provide residents with diverse and comprehensive training in the specialty. Our curriculum is fully aligned with the current ACGME program requirements, ensuring that each resident receives robust clinical exposure to both diagnostic and therapeutic methods across all recognized internal medicine subspecialties.

Training and Clinical Exposure

Residents in our program care for a broad and diverse patient population, which provides valuable experience in managing conditions commonly seen by internal medicine physicians. Throughout their three years of training, residents develop essential knowledge, clinical skills, attitudes, and procedural competencies under the close supervision of experienced teaching attendings. They gain increasing autonomy in patient care as they progress, with a focus on developing proficiency in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Resident Scholarly Activities

We strongly encourage scholarly activities, and our faculty and Graduate Medical Education (GME) team provide robust support to help residents engage in research, quality improvement projects, and other academic pursuits.

Performance Evaluation and Feedback

Each resident receives formal, constructive feedback twice a year. This feedback is based on a thorough review of their milestones, 360-degree evaluations, and performance during biannual Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) meetings. This structured feedback ensures that residents receive the guidance and support they need to meet their personal and professional goals.

Rotations and Elective Opportunities

Residents rotate through all major subspecialties of Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital, ensuring a well-rounded clinical experience. In addition, we offer outside elective rotations annually, allowing residents to tailor their training to their individual career interests.
