Mission, Aims and Highlights

Program Mission

The mission of the Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship Program at Henry Ford Hospital is to train future leaders in molecular diagnostics who embody the hospital's commitment to innovation, quality care, and community service. By providing a comprehensive education in molecular genetics, we aim to equip fellows with the expertise to apply advanced molecular techniques in clinical practice, contribute to personalized patient care, improve patient outcomes and engage in innovative research. We emphasize a multidisciplinary approach, collaboration with clinical teams, and a commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement, ensuring that our graduates are prepared to excel in academic, clinical, and research settings.

Program Aims

  • Exposure to Advanced Techniques – Training in NGS (including clinical exome sequencing), optical genome mapping, and other cutting-edge molecular methods.
  • LEAN Management Training – Fellows receive training in Lean principles within a department nationally recognized as a Lean enterprise since 2005.
  • Multidisciplinary Exposure – Active participation in tumor boards, clinical consultations, and collaborative projects across specialties.
  • Research Participation – Fellows are required to complete at least one scholarly project suitable for publication or presentation at a national meeting.
  • Personalized Patient Care – Fellows present journal clubs and grand rounds, honing skills in communication of complex genetic information and clinical implications.
