Made possible by the Al Glick Scholars Endowment Fund, Henry Ford Jackson Hospital (HFJH) is proud to offer scholarships for eligible Jackson County residents pursuing a career in healthcare. These scholarships provide financial assistance for continued education and career training, creating a pathway for recipients to become future members of the dedicated care team at HFJH.
2027 HFJH Al Glick Scholarship applications will be accepted beginning Fall of 2026.

Medical Assistant
Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to support the delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient care.
These duties may include, but are not limited to, greeting and escorting patients to the exam room, obtaining medical histories, measuring and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations or procedures, and assisting the provider during examinations or procedures.

Surgical Technician
Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and surgical team members, the surgical technician is responsible for handling surgical instruments, supplies and equipment required during general to moderately complex procedures.
This role includes maintaining an understanding of assigned procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, and supporting safe, efficient operations throughout the surgical process.
Additional responsibilities include patient preparation, patient transport, and assisting the surgical care team with specific patient care duties to ensure safety and comfort. The surgical technician also responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.

Respiratory Therapy
Under the general supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, the respiratory therapist delivers life-support, resuscitation, monitoring and medical gas therapies to patients across a variety of care settings.
This role includes performing invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures for patients in intensive care and general practice units, while maintaining clinical expertise across departmental assignments throughout HFHS.
The respiratory therapist communicates effectively with patients, physicians, and care team members, documents all aspects of patient care, and supports accurate billing practices. Additional responsibilities include supervising and guiding respiratory therapists, orientees, externs, and students as assigned.

Registered Nurse
The registered nurse provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient care across the care continuum.
Using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, the nurse provides, delegates, supervises, and documents patient care and education for patients and their families.
The role includes effective communication with the health care team, addressing patient and family needs, and identifying and implementing solutions when patient goals are not being met.

Athletic Trainer
The athletic trainer develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive health care programs for patients and athletes across a variety of settings.
Working under the direction of, on the prescription of, or in collaboration with a physician, this role includes injury prevention, clinical evaluation and assessment, immediate care and treatment, and rehabilitation and reconditioning of injury or illness.
Athletic trainers provide care in diverse environments, including high schools, colleges and universities, community outreach programs, events, and Henry Ford Health locations.

Social Work
The social worker supports patients and families by addressing complex psychosocial and economic needs to improve overall care outcomes.
This role includes providing education and consultation on available resources, collaborating with the care team to develop discharge plans, and facilitating and monitoring their implementation.
Social workers help patients and families adjust to and cope with illness, diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis. They mobilize community resources, serve as a liaison between the hospital and community, and provide crisis intervention when needed.
