Are COVID-19 tests completely free?

Yes, there is no cost.

Do I need an ID or insurance cards?

If you have an ID, please bring it to the test site. You may also bring insurance cards if you have insurance. However, neither is required.

Are the tests for anyone who wants one?

Henry Ford’s goal is to expand access to COVID-19 testing for members of underserved communities in Detroit and Dearborn. This COVID-19 testing program is designed to help members of the communities near the mobile clinics access testing. If you live or work in one of these zip codes, you are encouraged to take advantage of this program: 48201; 48204; 48207; 48208; 48209; 48210; 48214; 48216; 48228.

If you do not live or work in these zip codes, visit https://www.henryford.com/coronavirus for more information about testing.

What type of COVID-19 test is being offered?

The test is a PCR test, done with a nasopharyngeal swab. Results will be available in 24–48 hours, and will show if you have an active infection. Even if you do not have symptoms, this test can detect the active virus.

How will I get my results?

A Henry Ford representative will call you with your results. If you have MyChart, you can also check online for the results.

How is the test done?

A Henry Ford Health System provider will swab the inside of your nose for a sample that will be used in the test.

Are you offering tests that show if I had the virus at some time in the past?

No, Henry Ford is only offering testing for active COVID-19 virus at its Mobile Health Clinics. If you would like a COVID-19 antibody test that shows you had the virus at some time in the past, you can find this at testing locations throughout the state of Michigan.

What if I test positive? Do I need to quarantine or isolate myself?

Yes, if you test positive for COVID-19, you should avoid contact with family, friends, and the community. Henry Ford providers will give you information about further care if you test positive.

I don’t have any symptoms, but I came in contact with someone who has COVID-19. Can I be tested now?

Yes, this test can detect COVID-19 virus in individuals who do not yet have symptoms. If you think you were exposed to the virus, it’s a good idea to get tested. You could spread the virus to family, friends and in the community even if you don’t feel sick.

Can my child get a COVID-19 test?

COVID-19 tests are available for children. However, an infant under six months of age may not receive a flu shot.

If I come to the Mobile Health Clinic for a COVID-19 test, will I be asked to get a COVID-19 vaccine?

No, there are no vaccines available to the public for COVID-19. The staff at the Mobile Health Clinics does not have access to any of the investigational COVID-19 vaccines being tested around the world. Researchers at Henry Ford are leading Detroit area COVID-19 vaccine trials, but these trials are completely separate and distinct from the testing offered at the Mobile Health Clinics. The vaccine trials are not being held in Mobile Health Clinics.

How long will you be offering free COVID-19 tests?

Check the web site www.henryford.com/freeCOVIDtest for future dates and updates to the schedule, or email FreeCOVIDtest@hfhs.org, for more information.
