Gnam Gwen

Gwen Gnam serves as the Chief Nursing Officer and Vice-President of Patient Care Services at Henry Ford Hospital (HFH) in Detroit. Working collaboratively with the Magnet® Team, clinical nurses, and nurse leaders, HFH achieved its first Magnet® designation on March 20, 2020, making it the first hospital in Henry Ford Health (HFH) to receive this prestigious recognition. A leader at more than the local level, Gwen was the lead nurse on the health System’s Epic Inpatient Project and implementation. She continues to actively participate in the Nurse Advisory Council.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in Michigan, Gwen played an integral role. She sat on the executive command center team, developing strategies in partnership with Infection Control to ensure nurses had the equipment and information to protect them and their patients. She also worked with her team to convert units and increase ICU beds to care for COVID-19 patients and continues to support the healing and recovery for frontline staff.

Gwen is an advocate for safety and currently helps lead several safety initiatives to support the System’s journey to becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO). She largely supports the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) and serves as the chair of the HFH Hand Hygiene Committee, Workplace Violence Prevention Committee, Employee Safety Committee, and multiple other harm reduction committees.

Prior to becoming the CNO, Gwen held several key leadership positions during her tenure at Henry Ford Health, including Surgical Services Administrator, Administrator of Inpatient Nursing, Nursing Administrator of Surgical Inpatient Units, Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Administrator of the Canton Medical Center and Nurse Manager.

Gwen holds a Master of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Care Science. Gwen graduated from Henry Ford Health’s Leadership and Advanced Leadership Academy.
