Unit Secretary Honored for Devotion to Patient Family
Actions speak louder than words. Henry Ford Hospital (HFH) Medical Intensive Care Unit Secretary, Sabrina Swann, showed compassion effortlessly to a grieving family and as a result was presented with the April 2018 Honey Bee Award.
While a terminally ill patient was being treated on her unit, Swann took the extra step to make sure that everyone was comfortable, including the family. She proved that the simplest actions sometimes go a long way. Swann made sure the family had a gathering place by providing an empty conference room, where they took time to grieve without any interruptions. Knowing that communication can sometimes be difficult, she took the time to gather the family together minutes before the physician provided updates regarding the patient.
Through this stressful time, Swann maintained a positive attitude and provided genuine care. She exemplified the "Patient First" culture that Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) promotes. Even more graceful, she took time out of her personal schedule to show respect at the patient's viewing. Her commitment to the family represented HFHS at the highest regard and she is appreciated by not only the family, but by the community at HFH.
