Family Medicine Residency
A message from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Family Medicine program at Henry Ford Hospital. I invite you to look through our website to view the highlights of our training program. Our program is firm in our dedication to education, research, community involvement and patient care. These remain the foundation of our training program. Our commitment to excellence in medical education has made our graduates highly sought after for fellowship and faculty positions. Our residency program provides not only the core curriculum and clinical experiences required to meet all necessary clinical competencies but also a curriculum that is uniquely tailored to meet individual career objectives.
At Henry Ford we serve a diverse and rewarding patient population. Located in the heart of Detroit, we serve a primarily urban demographic which spans a multitude of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a health system Henry Ford spans across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties with our Detroit campus as the epicenter of care managing some of the sickest and most complex patients within the network. Additionally as a tertiary care center we receive referrals and transfers from across the state of Michigan and the Mid-West region for specialty care with residents representing the front-line care. This creates excellent opportunities for exposure to a variety of pathology, rare diseases, and advanced therapies including heart, lung, liver and kidney transplant.
Our most important goal of our residency is to deliver exceptional patient care. Through our inpatient unit (HF Family Medicine floor) and outpatient clinics (Harbortown, DNW, and CHASS) we strive to develop high satisfaction and quality care for our patients.
We emphasize the importance of developing highly engaged learners. We strive to support our residents own interests in addition to the core educational goals through didactical, experiential learning and scholarly activity. We want to give the flexibility and autonomy to our residents to allow them to reach for their dreams in family medicine.
Wellness is an absolutely priority of our residency program. We strive to make sure our residents are healthy, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Although residency can be demanding, our residents are valued and supported to find joy in their work and in our residency family.
We have established ourselves as part of the community that we serve and provide care. Our community outreach has continued to alleviate some of the social determinants of health that our patients face. Our role of using population health has allowed us to identify and correct health inequities that are evident in Detroit. Our team-based approach and community partnerships have allowed us to be example for the rest of the health system.
