Tavarekere is currently a research scientist at the Department of Neurosurgery at Henry Ford Hospital. He obtained his PhD degree from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bengaluru, India. He completed post-doctoral stints at the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD and at the Department of Anesthesiology, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. His research interests include investigations on blood-brain barrier dysfunction in acute and chronic neurological disorders (e.g., stroke, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury) and its treatment. His attempts to increase the clinical translational potential of basic research data via applications using non-invasive imaging are of great importance to him.
