Breast Care: With You Every Step of the Way

September 01, 2012

If you’re a woman age 40 or older, you’ve probably had a conversation with your doctor about mammography. Mammograms can help detect breast cancer early, when it is most treatable. At the Francee & Benson Ford Jr. Breast Care & Wellness Center at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, you can get your mammogram in a comfortable, convenient setting, close to home.

The center offers advanced screening and diagnostic services, including digital mammography, which helps radiologists capture a clearer view of the breast and easily share images electronically with other specialists as needed. The multidisciplinary team approach ensures that women with abnormal mammograms receive comprehensive and efficient care.

Collaboration for better care

“What makes Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital special is the unique on-site collaboration between the breast surgeon and the radiologist,” says surgical oncologist S. David Nathanson, M.D., the hospital’s director of breast services. “This allows us to share information with each other in real time.”

If mammogram results are abnormal, the staff guides the patient every step of the way. First, a nurse navigator calls the patient to schedule an additional mammogram. An ultrasound and biopsy may also be needed. The nurse navigator arranges for the patient to receive results quickly.

Compassion and convenience

Henry Ford West Bloomfield offers state-of-the-art treatment, such as the latest in radiation technology. Women also have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials of new treatment methods.

In addition to this clinical expertise, Vita wellness center is located directly below the breast center. It offers integrative wellness services and classes, such as massage, acupuncture, facials, yoga and fitness assessments.
