Henry Ford Hospital Physician Appointed to Graduate Medical Ed Council

DETROIT – Eric Scher, M.D., chair of the Department of Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital, was appointed to the Council on Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Scher is serving a four-year term, ending in 2019.

The 17-member council provides an ongoing assessment of physician workforce trends, training issues and financing policies. It also advises and make recommendations to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Dr. Scher, who joined Henry Ford as a senior staff physician in 1988, was appointed chair of the Department of Medicine in 2011. He also holds the position of vice president of Medical Education for Henry Ford Health System.

Dr. Scher is board certified in Internal Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed advanced training at Henry Ford.
