The goal of Henry Ford LiveWell Kids Summer Program, a first-time collaboration between Starwood Retail Partners, Fairlane Town Center and Henry Ford Health System, is to use the free time of summer as a time to form healthy habits before kids head back to school.
“We’re excited to partner with Starwood and Fairlane Town Center, a business that is a community gathering place,” says Dr. Stacy Leatherwood, Physician Champion for Childhood Wellness, Henry Ford LiveWell. “Healthcare improves when we extend it beyond the doctor’s office to places where people go while they’re well.”
“As a doctor I always discuss and encourage healthy habits, but once the patient leaves the office it’s up to them to take the advice or not,” says Dr. Leatherwood. “A program like this, especially during the summer when routines change and even the most health-focused families can get off track, gives us another way to reach families and talk about the benefits and ease of healthy living.”
The LiveWell Kids Summer Program is part of Fairlane Town Center’s MallStars Kids Club, which is free and open to children 10 years old and younger. Members receive information about mall events, giveaways and newsletters with special offers. More on Henry Ford LiveWell Kids Summer Program is available on the events page.
“What we want and plan to do,” says Dr. Leatherwood, “is teach healthy habits in a way that makes it fun, practical and easy to remember."
