Henry Ford Macomb Hospital Named Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital in the United States

December 15, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township earned a spot on the Becker Healthcare’s list, “100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs.”

The hospitals named to the list are national leaders in cardiovascular healthcare and have received recognition for delivering top-notch patient care. Many institutions pioneered ground-breaking procedures and remain on the forefront of heart care today.

This is one of multiple awards for the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital cardiology program. The team there credits a focus on the highest level of patient-centered care for all who come through the hospital doors, from those newly diagnosed with heart issues to others who need a heart transplant.

“The continuum of care starts in our community and moves through the most highly advanced treatments available today for our heart patients,” President and CEO Barbara Rossmann said. “It’s exciting that we’re again being nationally recognized for our amazing team’s commitment to our patients and their families.”

Henry Ford Macomb team members are continually working to build a network of support for cardiovascular patients in and out of the hospital. To more quickly receive life-saving information about incoming patients, leaders at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital worked with local ambulance companies to equip squads with 12-lead EKG equipment. In the hospital’s certified Chest Pain Center, the highly qualified medical team quickly and accurately assesses patients experiencing discomfort. Patients requiring minimally invasive heart procedures are soothed by soft, colored lights and comforting music as they are treated at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Henry Ford Macomb Hospital also offers one of the nation’s largest cardiac robotic surgery programs. And heart failure patients at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital also have the expertise of the Henry Ford Transplant Institute available. The Institute, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, offers both LVAD (left ventricular assist device) heart pump technology and transplant options.

“The utmost compliment is that other health systems are now looking at us as a model for cardiovascular treatment,” Henry Ford Macomb cardiologist Joseph Naoum, M.D., said, adding that the system shares best practices with other medical professionals to improve treatment for all patients.

To develop the list of top cardiovascular programs, the Becker's Healthcare editorial team examined several reputable rankings and award agencies. Those reviewed include “U.S. News & World Report” rankings for cardiology and heart surgery; Truven Health Analytics' cardiovascular hospital rankings; CareChex rankings for cardiac care; Blue Cross/Blue Shield’s Blue Distinction Center of Excellence for cardiac care, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ star rankings. Hospital systems do not pay to be included or considered for the list.
