Biographical Statement
Bernard C. Cook, PhD, DABCC, is a board-certified clinical chemist and senior staff scientist in the Department of Pathology at Henry Ford Health. He completed his doctoral training at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship in clinical chemistry at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Cook specializes in laboratory medicine, clinical chemistry and the translation of diagnostic testing into improved patient care.
Dr. Cook's research focuses on the development, validation and clinical implementation of laboratory diagnostics that improve the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease and other complex medical conditions. He has played a key role in evaluating high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays and accelerated diagnostic protocols for patients with suspected myocardial infarction, helping demonstrate their safety, efficiency and impact on emergency department care. His research also includes studies of coagulation testing, cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers, endocrine laboratory testing and emerging clinical assays that enhance diagnostic accuracy. Through collaborations with emergency physicians, cardiologists and pathologists, Dr. Cook works to translate advances in laboratory medicine into evidence-based clinical practice that improves patient outcomes.
Dr. Cook continues to collaborate with clinicians, laboratorians and translational researchers to advance precision diagnostics and laboratory quality. His ongoing work is dedicated to improving the clinical application of novel biomarkers and laboratory technologies that support timely, accurate and cost-effective patient care.
