Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey breast
  • 1/3 cup diced onion
  • 1/3 cup diced green pepper
  • 1/3 cup diced celery
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 whole-wheat hamburger buns (2 ounces each)

Instructions

In a large nonstick skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the ground turkey, onion, green pepper and celery. Cook, stirring frequently, until vegetables are softened and meat is broken into crumbles and cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in the chili powder, garlic powder, celery seeds, black pepper, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and horseradish. Continue to cook until all the liquid is absorbed, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add the tomato paste and water and cook until combined and heated through. Top each bun with 1/2 cup of sloppy Joe mixture.
