“Be patient and a good listener and always have faith.”
Chantelle claims she couldn’t have made it through her battle with breast cancer without the help and support of her family and the excellent care she received from the staff at Henry Ford.
“There was never an uncomfortable moment - ever,” she stated when she talked about the care at Henry Ford Hospital. “The nurses from the chemo room are the best nurses in the world.”
Chantelle, who used to work for Henry Ford Health System for over 40 years, turned to us to get a mammogram when a friend suggested she get one after retirement. After a suspicious spot was found and diagnosed as cancer, Chantelle met with a surgeon who went over everything she should expect.
“He was very helpful and reassuring,” she said.
At Henry Ford we take a team approach to care. Chantelle met with five different people from her care team during her first chemo visit. This included a radiologist, her oncologist and project manager. Someone from her team would follow-up after each and every treatment. She felt as if they ‘had her back.’
Chantelle, who appreciated the support she got, not only from her care team, but other patients undergoing treatment, is now interested in volunteering at Henry Ford. She wants to give back.
Life goes on after cancer. Chantelle plans to travel and throw herself an over-due retirement party.
