Laser Therapy for Varicose and Spider Veins

Laser therapy is a painless procedure that is an effective treatment for spider veins and varicose veins. It uses innovative laser technology to target the veins and break down the vein wall. Within a few weeks, the veins are no longer visible.

Laser treatments for varicose veins and spider veins include:

  • Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light (V-Beam or BroadBand Light): This treatment requires no needles and uses heat energy to damage or destroy abnormal veins.
  • Endovenous Laser Treatment (Nd:YAG): This is an outpatient treatment under local anesthesia that uses pulses from a laser to collapse the vein.

Radiofrequency ablation

Radiofrequency occlusion is an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia, using a small catheter in the vein to deliver radiofrequency energy to heat, collapse and seal the vein wall.

Microphlebectomy treats varicose veins using local, spinal or general anesthesia during the procedure. For vein removal, your physician will make several small incisions in your skin and remove the varicose vein.

What to expect during your procedure

These treatments are done in an outpatient setting and take about an hour from start to finish. To minimize discomfort during the procedure, topical numbing cream will be applied to the affected area and you will be prescribed Valium to help reduce anxiety. Immediately after the procedure is finished, the majority of our patients resume their normal activities and are able to return to work two days later.

In preparation for your treatment we recommend that you review the before and after procedure information.
