Take care so your broken or dislocated bone heals properly.

Immediate care for a fractured or dislocated bone is critical. But caring for your injury after treatment is just as important for proper healing and to avoid complications.

Your doctor likely will prescribe equipment to help your broken or dislocated bone heal. The doctor and nurses will provide clear instructions on how to use the equipment and how to care for your injury as you heal.

Types of equipment you may need

Depending on the location and type of dislocation or fracture you have, your doctor may recommend equipment to stabilize your injury or walking aids to help you get around. Equipment we commonly prescribe includes:

  • Canes
  • Casts
  • Crutches
  • Slings
  • Walkers

Caring for your dislocation or fracture

It’s vital that you follow your doctor’s instructions to care for your fracture or dislocation. Traumatic bone injuries that aren’t cared for correctly are prone to painful complications, such as blood poisoning or bone infections.
