Car Seat Installation Station - Harper Woods Fire Department

Henry Ford St. John Hospital’s Trauma Prevention Services and Safe Kids have partnered together to provide free, educational car seat installation checks to anyone (expecting parents, grandparents, caretakers, etc.) who would like to practice installing their seat while learning valuable recommendations and safety guidelines from a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

Each individualized check takes approximately 30 mins per seat and is done by appointment only. Please see the contact information below to set up registration. If you have more than one car seat needing installation, please disclose this information during registration. This is an educational, hands-on event. Technicians are prohibited from installing seats for you. You must be able to install the car seat yourself before leaving the event.

We have a limited amount of convertible (5lb -65lb / rear to forward facing), high back booster with harness, and big kid booster car seats available to qualifying families.

We do NOT distribute infant rear facing only (RFO) car seats. A child weighing between 5lbs - 65lbs will ride safely in a convertible car seat when installed and used correctly. The child receiving the car seat must be present or mother in her third trimester. You do NOT need to be an Wayne County resident to qualify. Please indicate below if you are in need of a car seat. If receiving an “in-need” seat from us, you MUST bring: 1) your proof of qualification, 2) the child receiving the car seat or mother in her third trimester, 3) a vehicle to practice installing in, and 4) a valid driver’s license. (Why? These are requirements from the State of Michigan to receive the seat and failure to present all the requirements will result in a cancellation of your appointment.)
