Transforming Care at Henry Ford Madison Heights to Expand Behavioral Health Services
Your care matters — Madison Heights is open today, and we’re planning a thoughtful transition to meet growing community needs.
Henry Ford Health has partnered with Trillium Health Care Management to expand access to inpatient behavioral health services in eastern Oakland and western Macomb counties. Under this plan, the Madison Heights hospital will be transformed into a state-of-the-art behavioral health facility, while remaining focused on serving patients in the community now and throughout the transition.
What’s changing
- Trillium will assume ownership of the Madison Heights facility and begin renovations this spring to convert the hospital into a 75-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital, with plans for future growth.
- The new facility will address urgent regional needs for inpatient behavioral health services.
Emergency Care Continues
Henry Ford Health will continue to operate and staff the Madison Heights Emergency Department 24/7 as a stand-alone site, ensuring uninterrupted emergency medical care for the community.
Ongoing Patient Care
- Madison Heights is open and serving patients now.
- As services transition, patients will be notified in advance and supported through care coordination.
- Remaining inpatient and surgical services will transition to Henry Ford Warren Hospital, about five miles away.
Why This Matters
Communities across southeast Michigan face a growing shortage of inpatient behavioral health care. This partnership expands access to critical psychiatric care — bringing more resources and capacity to the region while maintaining essential emergency services locally.
Timeline & Communication
Planning and renovations will take place over the coming months. Patients and families will receive advance communication and support for any changes in care location or services. Updates will be shared here as plans progress.
