About Me

Biographical Statement

Dr. Abdullah S. Ahmad is an associate scientist in the Department of Neurology at Henry Ford Health and an associate professor affiliated with Michigan State University. His research focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that contribute to neurological injury and recovery, with the goal of developing new therapies for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, traumatic brain injury, neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and other disorders of the nervous system, including Alzheimer’s Disease and vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia.

Dr. Ahmad has built a multidisciplinary research program that examines neuroprotection, neuroinflammation, cerebral blood flow and tissue oxygenation in neurological disease. His work investigates how immune responses, metabolic pathways and cellular signaling mechanisms influence brain injury and repair. By combining basic science and translational research approaches using state-of-the-art cutting edge research tools, he seeks to identify novel therapeutic targets that can improve outcomes following acute neurological injury.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ahmad has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and collaborated with investigators across neuroscience, neurology and vascular biology. His research has advanced understanding of stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, sleep-related neurological disorders and neurodegenerative disease, contributing to the development of innovative strategies aimed at protecting the brain and promoting recovery after injury. He also serves as a co-lead of the Sleep & Arousal research group within the Henry Ford Health and Michigan State University neuroscience research partnership.
